Getting Started with Nodlyn: Visual Automation Without the Glue Code

Spreadsheets, cron jobs on a forgotten server, and “just one more script” — that is how most teams start automating. It works until someone leaves, an API URL changes in twelve places, or nobody remembers why a batch job runs at 3 AM.

Nodlyn is visual automation you run on your own infrastructure: drag triggers and actions onto a canvas, test safely, approve what goes to production, and monitor runs in one place. No boilerplate glue code. No requirement to ship your data through a third-party cloud.

Who Nodlyn is for

  • Operations & IT — webhooks, schedules, file drops, notifications, ticketing.
  • Engineering & DevOps — pipelines, health checks, edge gateways, industrial protocols.
  • Business teams — approvals, invoices, CRM updates — with human gates where it matters.
  • IoT & facilities — MQTT, Modbus, discovery for Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, CAN Bus — on-prem first.

You do not need to be a developer. You do need clarity about what should happen when an event fires — that is what the canvas is for.

What you get on day one

Download Studio, open a blank workflow, and connect a trigger to an action in minutes. Use Dry Run to rehearse side effects before anything hits production. Browse 246+ templates if you prefer starting from a real scenario instead of a blank page.

When you are ready for depth, the in-app AI Assistant helps you describe flows in plain English and load templates onto the canvas. Read our AI Workflow Assistant guide for how teams use it in practice.

Local-first, cloud when you want it

Credentials and workflow graphs stay on your machine by default. That matters for factories, healthcare-adjacent workflows, and any environment where “send everything to a SaaS” is a non-starter. See why local-first automation matters.

Optional cloud hosting and remote monitoring exist when you need 24/7 uptime — but the product is not built around renting your data back to you.

From idea to production

Nodlyn treats automation like software: draft → validate → approve → activate. Dangerous steps can require human approval. Operators see history, failures, and schedules in the Jobs panel — not scattered log files.

Need the same workflow on a factory PC without Studio installed? Export a runtime agent and run headless at the edge.

Start building

  1. Download Nodlyn for Windows (Linux and macOS builds available).
  2. Open Studio and explore the template library.
  3. Ask the Assistant: “Build a webhook that logs incoming JSON.”

Want a guided walkthrough in the Knowledge Base? See the hands-on tutorial Your First Workflow — step-by-step, Inspector-aligned.

Automation should be visible, testable, and yours. That is what we built Nodlyn for.
