Device Discovery scans your network and registers devices so you can bind them to workflow nodes and monitor health. It is optional — most protocols also work with manual host/topic/address in the Inspector. See Direct connect vs Discovery.
Supported protocols
- Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave
- MQTT brokers and topic discovery
- BLE / Bluetooth LE peripherals
- CAN Bus adapters
- Modbus TCP — subnet/host scan with optional unit-ID (slave) probing via read-only FC3
- BACnet/IP (Who-Is / I-Am)
- mDNS / Bonjour, SSDP / UPnP, CoAP
- Network and USB printers
Typical workflow
- Open Studio → Discovery and select an intent (smart home, industrial, printers, etc.).
- Run scan; review discovered devices and metadata.
- Register devices to your workspace — they appear in Inspector pickers on action nodes.
- Or skip Discovery: add palette nodes and type IP, topic, or address directly.
